What are pressed steel tanks

Pressed Steel Tanks are heavy-duty, long-term storage solutions. They store medium to high volumes of water and other liquids. Due to their size, the fact that they are built up using portable steel panels, and the amount of liquid that they hold, every structure built has to be signed off by a registered engineer.

The tanks can be custom-made to serve as water tanks for industrial, municipal or residential use and can hold anything from 100 to 250 000 litres of liquid. They are also ASIB accredited fire tanks used for fire-fighting purposes.

These pressed steel tanks are made out of base steel plates and separate steel panels all bolted together. All steel components are dipped in a bath of molten zinc which encapsulates the steel. This is a manufacturing process called hot-dip galvanisation which prevents corrosion. This also protects the tanks from light penetration which causes algae buildup in water.

All nuts & bolts are of high tensile grade ensuring they can withstand high levels of strain without losing their strength or structure. All sealants and rubber components are non-toxic & do not taint the liquid in the tank.

Their modular design and the fact that they can be erected using basic equipment means they can be transported easily and can be installed in remote areas.

These tanks can be assembled at ground level and serviced by a pressure vessel and pump or can be elevated on structural steel towers up-to 20 metres to create water pressure by altitude.

The steel shell has a life expectancy of 20 to 30 years.
